You can’t go anywhere nowdays without hearing about the iPhone. It seems that every news story, every acquaintance, and everyone on the Internet is talking about the iPhone. And for good reason. The iPhone is an amazing smart phone that allows us to do things with our phones that were never thought possible. We can surf the Internet, make a dinner reservation, play games, and even work on that report for the big meeting. Hospitals are also getting in on the iPhone action. Let’s take a look at how hospitals are using the iPhone, and other smart phones, to improve customer care.
Track Patient Information
On the iPhone, doctors can actually track their patient’s progress and stats. With an iPhone app, doctors can access the same information that is printed from the machine anywhere with their phone. Labor and delivery doctors and nurses especially find this useful as they can watch when a mother gets closer to labor and then plan accordingly.
This also saves money for the hospital. The same doctor who used to use the hospital’s computers to monitor stats can now do so from the phone. The hospital has less maintenance, and less need, for computers and also doesn’t waste paper that is printing out information.
Monitor While Away
This technology even works when the doctor is out of state or out of the immediate area of the hospital. For example, if the doctor is on a ski vacation, he can quickly and easily check in on a patient and determine if anything needs to be done to help the patient while he is away. This makes it much easier for a doctor to feel at ease to take a much needed vacation, while the patient is also at ease knowing his doctor is not far away.
Technology is certainly changing the face of the medical world. What new advancements will be next?
